Q: Is it possible to buy the ERCP Module independently without
buying the GI Mentor simulator?
A: No, the simulator is the basic platform
needed for performing the cases in any module, whether built-in
or add-on.
Q: Is the basic GI
Mentor platform compatible with all of the Add-On Modules that are
available.
A: Yes,
as long as the Add-On modules are products of Simbionix created
for the GI Mentor simulator. (Cases for the URO Mentor simulator
will not work on the GI Mentor simulator and vice versa.)
Q: Can the simulator
be used repeatedly for an unlimited number of procedures?
A: Yes,
the simulator is designed for repeated use without additional preparation
between uses.
Q: Can the endoscope,
which comes with the simulator, be used on actual patients?
A: No,
the scope has been modified, replacing the endoscopic camera with
a sensor, which simulates the camera view.
Q: Can my standard
tools be used with the simulator?
A: No,
the tools used in the GI Mentor are also modified using sensors
to simulate their function. Although the handles are identical to
those of standard tools, the tool portion at the tip is simulated.
Q: Can the same endoscope
be used with upper GI, lower GI and ERCP?
A: On the
GI Mentor, the Upper and Lower GI endoscope that comes with the
simulator is used for the Upper GI and Lower GI procedures, however,
for the ERCP module a special duodenoscope is provided as part of
the Add-On.
Q: How many different
medical cases are available that I may choose from?
A: At the
present time there are 60 cases available: 10 upper and 10 lower
basic cases that come as built-ins, 10 upper and 10 lower additional
cases to enrich the selection that are available as an add-on, 10
Emergency Bleeding cases and 10 ERCP cases, both available as add-ons.
Q: Is the software
available in languages other than English?
A: Yes,
at the present time it is available in Japanese.
Q: Does the room in
which the simulator will be stationed need any special preparation
or conditions?
A: The
simulator should be stationed in a clean surrounding away from direct
sunlight or any other strong light source facing the monitor. It
requires a regular electrical outlet nearby, or an extension cord.
Q: Can I move
the simulator from place to place?
A:
The simulator can be moved with care within the hospital by gently
pushing it on its wheels, however, to transport the simulator from
location to location requires the dismantling of the system, and
should not be attempted without special training in set-up and installation
of the system.
