The new Laparoscopic GYN module exemplifies Simbionix’s on-going commitment to clinical education and improved patient safety by providing opportunities for higher level virtual training in all fields of surgery.
The module is designed to help trainees develop judgment and learn how to interpret anatomical and operative findings in a safe, monitored environment. Trainees gain experience with different techniques and alternative approaches to treatments of ectopic pregnancy, tubal sterilization and oophorectomy.
Library of Virtual Patients
The module includes realistic anatomies created from CT/MRI images of real patients. Each patient case demonstrates an anatomical variation and pathology and includes a complete patient history. Trainees can practice complete virtual gynecological procedures with life-like sensations that mimic the feel of an actual lap procedure.
A Complete Set of Laparoscopic Instruments
Available instrumentation includes electro-surgical instruments, uterine manipulator, endobag, vasopressin injection needle and sterilization clip applicator unique to the GYN procedure.
Coping with Complications
The module enables trainees to acquire skills and knowhow in safely coping with surgical complications, such as bleeding at the implantation site, a ruptured fallopian tube or a blood-filled abdominal cavity.
Exceptional Learning Aids
The colorful 3D anatomical atlas of the female anatomy is designed to accelerate mastery of the complex anatomy, while a didactic step-by-step tutorial followed by videos of actual procedures enables the user to independently understand the procedural steps before or during hands-on training.
A Comprehensive Set of Performance Metrics
Detailed information regarding tissue handling, safety and use of instruments, time and efficiency of motion is collected during the session in order to assess skill level and training success. The performance metrics are recorded to a file for viewing on the simulator and can be exported for later use.
