A Full Colorectal Procedure Simulation
The new Sigmoidectomy Full Procedure Module exemplifies Simbionix’ ongoing commitment to clinical education and improved patient safety by enabling users to experience an entire laparoscopic colorectal procedure in a safe environment.
The module simulates a complete individual patient case allowing the trainee to master the anatomy, to rehearse the procedure step-by-step and practice real-time clinical decision-making.
Perform a Wide Range of Tasks
The module provides an environment in which to perform a wide range of tasks before encountering them in the OR: Incise the peritoneum, identify the ureter, dissect in correct tissue planes, expose and divide vessels, perform distal division and anastomosis.
Decision Making
Trainees learn to determine and practice the best approach to the procedure in real time; medial or lateral dissection, sufficient mobilization of the colon.
Complications
Trainees work safely to prevent complications and respond to injuries: Injury to the ureter and gonadal vessels, risk of injury to the colon or rectal wall, major and minor vascular injuries and control of bleeding from tissue or vessels throughout the procedure.
A Complete Educational Solution
A Colorful 3D anatomical atlas helps accelerate mastery of the complex anatomy. Step-by-step instructions enable the user to independently understand the procedural steps before or during hands-on training. On-demand videos of real procedure may be displayed next to the procedural screen, as well as optional colorful, interactive visual indicators marked on the anatomy to indicate tissue grasping, clipping and cutting areas. Performance metrics are collected during the session in order to assess skill level and training success. Metrics include time and efficiency of motion, safety and electrosurgical dissection, complications and injuries. Information regarding the performance of colonic mobilization, distal division and anastomosis is also provided.
Procedure Specific Laparoscopic Instruments
The module includes electro-surgical instruments, the Harmonic Scalpel, atraumatic bowel graspers, linear staplers and Echelon and a circular stapler.
Trocar Configurations
There are four available configurations. Recommendations of which configuration to use during a specific procedural step can be accessed; however the first configuration is convenient for performing the entire case. The availability of assisting graspers allows up to four instruments in the abdominal cavity at a time. Up |
