University of California Irvine Yamanouchi Education Center Adds Simbionix Products
Dr. Elspeth McDougall, Professor, Department of Urology at UCI, was very pleased that Simbionix could complete the installation of the
URO/PERC MENTOR prior to a visit by Yamanouchi Phara America Executives and the University’s own “New Frontiers in Endourology 2003 Course.” Both will take place concurrently in mid-April. Dr. McDougall stated that “Guy (Guy Benisty, Simbionix International Sales Support Manager), has provided an excellent orientation and I am going to start organizing training programs for the residents according to their level of training.” Simbionix is working closely with Drs. McDougall and Clayman at UCI as well as other key opinion leaders in Urology to draw attention to the value the URO/PERC MENTOR can bring to a teaching program.

CDDW, February 23-25, 2003, Banff, AB, Canada
In cooperation with Pentax Canada the GI MENTOR II was presented with the newly released commercial EUS module for the first time in North America. The EUS module created an amazing amount of excitement from the leaders in the gastrointestinal field. Guy Benisty, International Sales Support Manager for Simbionix, and Don Montgomery, National Sales Manager for Pentax Canada look forward to an expanding market in Canada based on the reaction from the attendees.

R&D and Product Development

The EUS module for the GI MENTOR is now commercially available!
The innovative EUS module is the first and only application that provides a platform for hands-on learning and practicing EUS procedures. It was developed in collaboration with Dr. Marc Giovannini, Institut Paoli-Calmettes, Marseille, France, Dr. Darius Sorbi & Dr. David Fleischer, Mayo Clinic, Scottsdale, AZ, USA, Dr. Erwin Santo, Sourasky Medical Center, Israel, Dr. Yaakov Maor, Sheba Medical Center, Israel and Dr. Robert Hawes, MUSC, Charleston, SC, USA.
The pre-commercial version was initially demonstrated during the last UEGW in Geneva and received great feedback. Opinion leaders and GI fellows, as well as industry representatives from Pentax, Hitachi, and Olympus, all agree on the urgent need for such a teaching tool.

The posters were presented by Arnulf Ferlitsch, Peter Glauninger, Astrid Gupper, Martin Schillinger, Michael Haefner, Alfred Gangl, and Rainer Schoefl of the Dept. of Internal Medicine IV, Div. of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Univ. of Vienna (click to view document) and Diego Fregonese, Tino Casetti, Renzo Cestari, Fausto Chilovi, Giancarlo D'Ambra, Gianfranco Delle Fave, Emilio Di Giulio, Giovanni Di Matteo, and Leonardo Ficano of Rome, Italy (click to view document) .

In addition to these two initial evaluations of the simulator's effectiveness in endoscopic training, at least two additional large-scale validation studies are currently underway, one in Denmark and the second in the USA.

Simbionix and Cleveland Clinic Foundation sign a Joint Research and Technology Transfer Agreement, June 3, 2001.

Since its inception in August 1997, Simbionix Ltd. has set as one of its chief marketing principles the importance of working with medical experts and opinion leaders in the fields in which we develop our simulators for the purpose of understanding training needs and incorporating feedback from physicians on the products which we develop. We are proud of the several close relationships that we have developed around the world with doctors and organizations that collaborate with us to develop the high quality cases for use with our simulators.

It is then, with particular pride that we announce the expansion of our collaborative efforts with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio, marked by the signing of a Joint Research and Technology Transfer Agreement. We look forward to a fruitful joint effort which will further enrich the field of computer assisted endoscopy.
